Services for Seniors
F&CS provides a multitude of services that promote active and independent living for seniors and older American. We pride ourselves in serving the Districts frail, economically disadvantaged or isolated seniors.
- Senior Social Services: Keeping seniors safe and living in the community, we offer a broad range of professional services to older DC residents, who are aged 60 and above, in all wards of the city. These services include comprehensive assessment, case management, counseling outreach, heavy house cleaning, adult abuse prevention and domestic violence prevention. Whether it's assistance with bill paying, an escort to a medical appointment, running errands or heavy house cleaning, F&CS' professional and paraprofessional senior services staff are ready to serve the needs of the community. We are available 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., weekdays and by appointment. Additionally, Bi-lingual social workers are available for Spanish-speaking clients.
- Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP): Active and involved seniors, the workforce still needs you! RSVP encourages seniors age 55 and over to volunteer at government agencies, non-profit organizations, churches, hospitals, nursing homes and other places around the District. Participants generally volunteer four hours, one day a week.
- Senior Works: The perfect opportunity for the skilled retiree to re-enter the workforce. Volunteers age 55 and over are placed at various government, private and non-profit sites for a period of ninety days, with the hope that they will subsequently be hired as full-time, permanent employees.

- Home and Community-Based Waiver for the Elderly: An in-home fee-based program, Medicaid Waiver, provides case management to individuals age 65 and over who reside in the District of Columbia, are eligible for Medicaid, earn less than $1500 per month and are suitable for nursing home placement.
